    Is That Employee High? Are They Drunk?

    The Role of HR in Identifying Alcohol and Drug Abuse

    This session explores how HR can proactively work to train supervisors and others to recognize the signs of abuse that manifest themselves in the workplace.  We will cover:

    • Understanding the high level of abuse in the workforce
    • Use of drugs and alcohol in the workplace and how to spot
    • Under the influence in the workplace and how to spot
    • The high injury rate and death among abusers
    • How does alcohol work
    • How do Opioids work
    • How does Crystal Meth work
    • How does Marijuana work
    • Long term and short term effects

    This program was developed around proven research, legal resources and other professional resources.  HR Professional should have tools needed to train supervisors on abuse observations and help their employees address abuse issues before they injure or kill themselves or others.


    About the Speaker:

    Eric Scott Bowers, SHRM-SCP, MAED:   Eric Scott Bowers brings a wealth of varied experiences to his consulting and training services for LassiterWare Inc.’s clients and to the clients of Bowers HR Consulting/Training Group. He has forty-nine years of Human Resource Management experience, working in healthcare, manufacturing, engineering, insurance and local government.  He has developed expertise in:

    •           Safety/Loss Control
    •           Employee/Labor Relations
    •           Training

    His Human Resource experience and dedication to the HR profession has been recognized by Local and State Affiliates of the Society of Human Resource Management where he is a frequent speaker and trainer. He was the HR Professional of the Year in 2012 for the State of Florida and has served as Certification Trainer in Lake, Sumter and Marion Counties for the last eleven years.

    He spent twenty years in the auto industry in a labor relations role at both plant and corporate levels and has negotiated agreements with UAW, CAW, URW, IAM and the IBEW.  As well as working with unions he spearheaded anti-union strategies for various part suppliers throughout the South.

    As a graduate of the Crosby Quality College and certified QS 9000 Auditor he is familiar with Total Quality Management systems and concepts and how to implement quality concepts into the workforce.  His education also includes an undergraduate degree from Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio in Business Administration and a Master’s in Executive Development from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana.

    Scott is recognized by the Society of Human Resource Managers as a Senior Certified Professional in Human Resources.
