    Presentation Summary

In a world that’s evolving faster than resumes can keep up, organizations must start asking a different question- not “Where did you go to school?” but “What can you actually do?” We’re at a turning point in how we define talent. Credentials are no longer the whole story. This session reframes how we approach hiring, focusing on unlocking potential over pedigree. As someone who’s coached, led, and built teams from the ground up, I’ve seen the power of betting on people’s ability- not just their background. Together, we’ll explore how a skills-first lens not only fuels retention and agility, but also restores dignity to the hiring process by meeting talent where they are and equipping them to rise.

    Learning Objectives

    1. Redefine Talent at Its Core Learn how shifting from credentials to competencies transforms hiring, creates equity, and opens the door to overlooked high-potential performers.

    2. Operationalize Potential with Purpose Explore practical ways to embed skills-based practices into your recruiting, interviewing, and development strategies- without losing the human touch.

    3. Lead the Culture Shift from the Top Gain tools to champion a skills-first mindset across leadership, breaking down legacy biases and building a future-ready, purpose-aligned workforce.

    Speaker:

Ramiro Herrera Jr. is a purpose-driven leader, mentor, and community advocate with a career built on empowering, and elevating the workforce and individuals- often from unexpected places. A leadership & workforce strategist, author of Excellence in Action, and President-Elect of the Lake/Sumter SHRM Chapter, Ramiro brings a rare blend of business acumen, human insight, and heart-centered leadership to every room he steps into. His professional journey spans talent development, Medicare, and business consulting, but his personal mission remains the same: to unlock potential in people and systems. Whether in the boardroom or the community, Ramiro’s work is rooted in one belief- that what someone can do should matter more than where they came from.
